小豆島の美しい内海湾　Beautiful Utsumi Bay on Shodoshima

 

小豆島に着いた翌日、ホテルをチェックアウトして観光に向かった。

ホテルのすぐ前にあったバス停から、オリーブ公園の近くまでバスで移動した。

オリーブ公園に向かう前に、バス停から目の前に広がる海があまりに美しく、その方向を歩いていった。

このあたりは、オリーブビーチというらしい。

まだ6月で時期が早いせいか、泳いでいる人は誰もいなかった。

海の水は澄んでいて、空の青さと相まって、遠くには四国の山陰も見え、その景色はとても綺麗だった。

このオリーブビーチからは、渡し船が出ていて、内海湾の向かいにある、二十四の瞳映画村や壷井栄文学館のある場所に渡れるようだ。

今回は、時間の都合でそこに行くことはできなかった。

壷井栄と二十四の瞳については、この旅の先で、再び触れることになるだろう。

The day after I arrived at Shodoshima, I checked out of the hotel and went sightseeing.

I took a bus from the bus stop right in front of the hotel to the area near Olive Park.

Before heading to Olive Park, I walked in the direction of the beautiful sea that stretched out in front of me from the bus stop.

This area is called Olive Beach.

No one was swimming, probably because it was still early in June.

The water of the sea was clear and the blue sky combined with the shadow of the mountains of Shikoku in the distance.

From Olive Beach, there is a ferry that crosses over to the Twenty-Four Eyes Movie Village and Tsuboi Sakae Literature Museum across from Utsumi Bay.

This time, I couldn't go there due to time constraints.

Sakae Tsuboi and Twenty-Four Eyes will be touched on again later in this journey.

  ベイリゾートホテル小豆島の客室は、フローリンの床がピカピカだった。 おそらく、昔は畳が敷かれた典型的な旅館の和室の部屋だったのではないか。 床を底上げしてリノベしたように感じられた。 しかし、窓からの眺めは格別で、この景色を見るためだけにこのホテルに泊まってもいい、と思わせるくらい、素晴らしい景色だった。 The guest rooms at the Bay Resort Hotel Shodoshima had shiny floors made of florin. It was probably a typical Japanese-style room with tatami mats in the past. It felt like the floor was raised and renovated. However, the view from the window was exceptional, and it was so wonderful that it made me think that I could stay at this hotel just to see this view.

神戸海軍操練所跡　Site of Kobe Naval Training Center

  翌日、ホテルをチェックアウトして、小豆島へ向かう。 神戸フェリーターミナルに向かう途中に、神戸海軍操練所跡の記念碑を見つけた。 それは、幕末期の元治元年（1864年）、勝海舟の提言によって作られた施設だった。 そこでは、土佐藩の坂本龍馬や陸奥宗光らが集い、勝海舟の元で西洋式の海軍技術を学んでいた。 しかし、幕府の施設に関わらず、倒幕派の人々が学んでいたことが問題視されて、翌年の慶應元年（1865年）には廃止されてしまった。 あまり気に留める人もいないひっそりとしたこの場所は、日本の近代が始まった場所の一つと言っていい。 The next day, I checked out of the hotel and headed to Shodoshima. On the way to the Kobe Ferry Terminal, I found a memorial to the site of the Kobe Naval Training Center. It was a facility built in 1864, at the end of the Edo period, at the suggestion of Kaishu Katsu. Ryoma Sakamoto and Munemitsu Mutsu of the Tosa clan gathered there and learned Western-style naval technology from Kaishu Katsu. However, it was abolished in the following year, 1865, because the fact that anti-shogunate people were studying regardless of the bakufu's facilities was a problem. It can be said that this quiet place, where no one pays much attention, is one of the places where modern Japan began.

水木の荒神社　Ara Shrine at Mizuki

  小豆島オリーブ公園の中を歩いていたら、小さな石の鳥居が目に入った。 立て札を見ると、”水木の荒神社”との説明がある。 少なくとも、江戸時代の中期にはその存在が文書で確認できるとのこと。 その境内にはかつては大きな舞台があり、地元の人々が踊りや芝居をそこで演じていたようだ。 現在は、オリーブ公園として多くの人々が訪れているが、かつてはこの地はお祭りの場所として賑わっていた。 南向きで内海に面し、緩やかな山裾であったこの場所は、いつの時代も人々の関心を惹きつける場所であったのだろう。 As I was walking through Shodoshima Olive Park, I saw a small stone torii gate. Looking at the billboard, there is an explanation that it is "Mizuki no Ara Shrine". At least, its existence can be confirmed in documents in the middle of the Edo period. There used to be a large stage in the precincts, and it seems that the locals used to perform dances and plays there. Today, it is visited by many people as an olive park, but it used to be a bustling place for festivals. Facing south, facing the inland sea, and gently sloping at the foot of a mountain, this place must have always attracted people's attention.
