オリーブ公園には、およそ2,000本のオリーブの木が植えられているという。 それらはなだらかな傾斜地に、石を積んで平らな場所を作り、そこに植えられている。 そのオリーブの森を彷徨っていると、方向感覚を失ってしまう。 時折現れる、案内のプレートをみて、自分がどの辺りにいるのかを確認できた。 この地にオリーブが植えられたのは、明治41年。 この地の他に三重と鹿児島にも植えられたが、枯れずに残ったのはこの小豆島の地だけだった。 オリーブと小豆島は、特別な関係にあったということかもしれない。 About 2,000 olive trees are planted in Olive Park. They are planted on a gently sloping land, piling up stones to create a flat area. Wandering through the olive grove, you lose your sense of direction. I was able to confirm where I was by looking at the guide plate that appeared from time to time. Olive trees were planted in this area in 1909. In addition to this land, it was also planted in Mie and Kagoshima, but it was only this land on Shodoshima that survived. It may be that Olive and Shodoshima had a special relationship.

  オリーブビーチから、ゆるい坂道をしばらく登っていくと、オリーブの木々が見えてくる。 いつの間にか、オリーブ公園の園内に入っていた。 小豆島を代表する観光施設であるオリーブ公園は、正式な名称は、道の駅　小豆島　オリーブ公園、というらしい。 このギリシャ風車は、この公園を象徴する存在で、映画『魔女の宅急便』の実写版にも登場する。 その映画の主人公にあやかって、この風車の前で箒に乗って記念撮影をするのが、観光の定番コースになっている。 If you climb up the gentle slope from Olive Beach for a while, you will see olive trees. Before I knew it, I was in the garden of Olive Park. The official name of Olive Park, a tourist facility that represents Shodoshima, is Roadside Station Shodoshima Olive Park. This Greek windmill is a symbol of this park, and it also appears in Hayao Miyazaki's "Kiki's Delivery Service". Riding a broomstick in front of the windmill and taking a commemorative photo after the hero of the movie has become a standard sightseeing course.

  オリーブビーチのすぐ近くに、オリーブナビ小豆島という観光案内所があった。 中に入ると、小豆島の大きな地図が床に貼り付けられていて、その周囲には、主な地域の観光スポットが写真で紹介されていた。 2階に上がると、イスや机が並んだ休憩スペースもあった。 観光施設のパンフレットや、フリーペーパーなどもたくさんあって、これからの観光に向けて情報収集をすることができた。 Right near Olive Beach, there was a tourist information center called Olive Navi Shodoshima. Inside, there was a large map of Shodoshima pasted on the floor, surrounded by pictures of the major tourist attractions in the area. When I went up to the second floor, there was a rest space with chairs and desks. There were many pamphlets of tourist facilities and free papers, so I was able to collect information for future sightseeing.

  オリーブビーチに、巨大な石の彫刻作品があった。 下のプレートを見ると、曽根皋子という作家による、Paradise Gateという作品で、1991年に制作されたらしい。 目に前に広がる美しい海、そしてその背後に広がる緑にあふれたオリーブ公園を見ると、確かにこれは天国の門である、と思えてきた。 On Olive Beach, there was a huge stone sculpture work. Looking at the plate below, it seems that it was made in 1991 by an artist named Soko Sone, called Paradise Gate. Looking at the beautiful sea that spreads out in front of me and the green olive park that spreads behind it, I began to think that this was indeed the gate to heaven.

オリーブビーチでしばらく佇んでいると、岸辺にクラゲがいることに気がついた。 幼い頃、海に入るときに周囲にクラゲの姿を見ると、刺されないかとビクビクしたものだ。 古事記の国うみの神話の中で、初めの日本のことを、”クラゲなす漂える島”と表現したいたことを思い出した。 このようなクラゲが漂っている海の中から、この国は生まれたのかと思うと、何とも不思議な気分になる。 日本という国が、海ととても深い関係にあるということにも、思いを馳せた。 After standing for a while at Olive Beach, I noticed that there were jellyfish on the shore. When I was young, I used to get scared when I saw jellyfish around me when I entered the sea, thinking that I might get stung. She recalled that in the Kojiki Kuni Umi no Myth, she described Japan in the beginning as "a floating island with jellyfish." Thinking that this country was born out of an ocean with jellyfish floating around like this gives me a strange feeling. I also thought about the fact that Japan, as a country, has a very deep relationship with the sea.

  小豆島に着いた翌日、ホテルをチェックアウトして観光に向かった。 ホテルのすぐ前にあったバス停から、オリーブ公園の近くまでバスで移動した。 オリーブ公園に向かう前に、バス停から目の前に広がる海があまりに美しく、その方向を歩いていった。 このあたりは、オリーブビーチというらしい。 まだ6月で時期が早いせいか、泳いでいる人は誰もいなかった。 海の水は澄んでいて、空の青さと相まって、遠くには四国の山陰も見え、その景色はとても綺麗だった。 このオリーブビーチからは、渡し船が出ていて、内海湾の向かいにある、二十四の瞳映画村や壷井栄文学館のある場所に渡れるようだ。 今回は、時間の都合でそこに行くことはできなかった。 壷井栄と二十四の瞳については、この旅の先で、再び触れることになるだろう。 The day after I arrived at Shodoshima, I checked out of the hotel and went sightseeing. I took a bus from the bus stop right in front of the hotel to the area near Olive Park. Before heading to Olive Park, I walked in the direction of the beautiful sea that stretched out in front of me from the bus stop. This area is called Olive Beach. No one was swimming, probably because it was still early in June. The water of the sea was clear and the blue sky combined with the shadow of the mountains of Shikoku in the distance. From Olive Beach, there is a ferry that crosses over to the Twenty-Four Eyes Movie Village and Tsuboi Sakae Literature Museum acr...

ベイリゾートホテル小豆島での夕食は、豪華な会席料理だった。 新鮮な魚のお造りに始まり、オリーブ牛、鮑、小豆島産手延べ素麺など、小豆島の食材を豊富に使った、とても美味しい料理を楽しむことができた。 Dinner at the Bay Resort Hotel Shodoshima was a sumptuous kaiseki meal. Starting with fresh fish sashimi, I was able to enjoy very delicious dishes that used abundant ingredients from Shodoshima, such as olive beef, abalone, and hand-rolled somen noodles from Shodoshima.  

ベイリゾートホテル小豆島の客室からは、小豆島の内海湾の景色を楽しむことができた。 右手の遠くには、寒霞渓などがある神懸山を望むことができた。 また、すぐ近くには、醤油工場の建物なども見えた。 カメラの望遠レンズを使って内海湾の向かい側を眺めていたら、オリーブ公園の風車の姿もかろうじて見つけることができた。 From the rooms at the Bay Resort Hotel Shodoshima, I was able to enjoy the view of Shodoshima's Utsumi Bay. In the distance on the right side, I could see Mt. Kankake with Kankakei Gorge. In the immediate vicinity, I could also see buildings such as a soy sauce factory. When I used the telephoto lens of my camera to look across Utsumi Bay, I could barely spot the windmills in Olive Park.  

  ベイリゾートホテル小豆島の客室は、フローリンの床がピカピカだった。 おそらく、昔は畳が敷かれた典型的な旅館の和室の部屋だったのではないか。 床を底上げしてリノベしたように感じられた。 しかし、窓からの眺めは格別で、この景色を見るためだけにこのホテルに泊まってもいい、と思わせるくらい、素晴らしい景色だった。 The guest rooms at the Bay Resort Hotel Shodoshima had shiny floors made of florin. It was probably a typical Japanese-style room with tatami mats in the past. It felt like the floor was raised and renovated. However, the view from the window was exceptional, and it was so wonderful that it made me think that I could stay at this hotel just to see this view.

  ベイリゾートホテル小豆島のロビーは広くてとてもゆったりとしていた。 大きな窓があり、窓の外に広がる瀬戸内海の景色を眺めることができた。 小豆島の観光のパンフレットや、小豆島の歴史や文化についての書籍なども並んでいて、小豆島のことをよく知ることができた。 奥の壁には周りの雰囲気とはちょっと似合わない現代アートの絵画があり、その青い色合いがとても印象的だった。 The lobby of Bay Resort Hotel Shodoshima was large and very spacious. There was a large window, and I could see the scenery of the Seto Inland Sea spreading outside the window. There were pamphlets about sightseeing in Shodoshima and books about the history and culture of Shodoshima, so I was able to learn a lot about Shodoshima. On the far wall, there was a modern art painting that didn't match the atmosphere of the surroundings, and its blue hue was very impressive.

  小豆島の1泊目は、坂出港からすぐ近くにある、ベイリゾートホテル小豆島に泊まった。 港に近いので、すぐに荷物を置いて、島の観光に向かうことができたので便利だった。 温泉もあるので、旅の疲れを癒すこともできた。 For my first night on Shodoshima, I stayed at the Bay Resort Hotel Shodoshima, which is very close to Sakaide Port. It's close to the port, so it's convenient because you can drop off your luggage right away and head out for sightseeing on the island. There is also a hot spring, so I was able to heal the fatigue of the trip.

  小豆島の坂出港では、ヤノベ・ケンジの”スター・アンガー”が島に訪れる人々を出迎えるように立っている。 かつて、この場所には灯台が建っていたようだ。 この港からしばらく坂道を登った場所には、そのヤノベ・ケンジがビートたけしと共同で制作した”アンガー・フロム・ザ・ボトム　美井戸神社”という作品がある。 以前、このアート作品の制作にまつわるテレビ番組を見たことがあった。 残念ながら、ホテルの送迎バスが待っていたので、その作品を目にすることはできなかった。 At Sakaide Port on Shodoshima, Kenji Yanobe's "Star Anger" stands as if to welcome visitors to the island. A lighthouse once stood here. A short walk up the hill from this port is a work called "Anger from the Bottom Miido Shrine" that Kenji Yanobe produced in collaboration with Takeshi Beat. I had seen a TV program about the creation of this art piece before. Unfortunately, the hotel shuttle bus was waiting for me, so I couldn't see the work.

  遠くに坂出港が見えてきた。 小豆島にはいくつか港があるが、神戸から出発するジャンボフリーは島の東側にあるこの坂出港に到着する。 Sakaide Port came into view in the distance. Shodoshima has several ports, but Jumbo Free ferries departing from Kobe arrive at Sakaide Port on the east side of the island. 船が港に接岸する瞬間は、いつでも何故か心が昂ってしまう。 ようやく、ずっと一度は着てみたかった、小豆島に足を踏み入れることができた。 For some reason, the moment a ship berths in the harbor is always exciting. Finally, I was able to set foot on Shodoshima, a place I've always wanted to wear.
