  小豆島オリーブ公園の中にある、サン・オリーブというレストランでランチを取った。 地元の食材を使った、魅力的な多くのメニューの中から選んだのは、オリーブとんバーガーと、オリーブサイダーだった。 香川県のブランド豚に指定されているオリーブ豚を、オリーブのバンズで挟んだまさにオリーブの島バーガーだ。 ソースには、やはり小豆島の特産品である醤油が使われている。 オリーブの風味が強いサイダーと合わせると、まさにオリーブ尽くしのランチだった。 I had lunch at a restaurant called Sun Olive in Shodoshima Olive Park. Among the many tempting menu items using local ingredients, we chose the Olive Ton Burger and Olive Cider. Olive pork, which is designated as a brand pork in Kagawa Prefecture, is sandwiched between olive buns. The sauce uses soy sauce, which is also a specialty of Shodoshima. Combined with cider with a strong olive flavor, it was truly a lunch full of olives.

  小豆島オリーブ公園の記念館に入ったら、いきなりギリシャのアテネ神が現れた。 小豆島は、ギリシャのミロス島と姉妹都市関係にあるらしい。 館内には、ミロス島で発見された、ミロのヴィーナスの彫刻も置かれていた。 記念館の中には、小豆島におけるオリーブ栽培の歴史を紹介するコーナーや、お土産物屋、レストランなどがある。 When I entered the memorial hall of Shodoshima Olive Park, the Greek goddess of Athena suddenly appeared. Shodoshima has a sister city relationship with the Greek island of Milos. A sculpture of Venus de Milo, which was discovered on the island of Milos, was also placed in the museum. Inside the museum, there is a corner that introduces the history of olive cultivation on Shodoshima, a souvenir shop, a restaurant, and more.

  小豆島オリーブ公園の中を歩いていたら、小さな石の鳥居が目に入った。 立て札を見ると、”水木の荒神社”との説明がある。 少なくとも、江戸時代の中期にはその存在が文書で確認できるとのこと。 その境内にはかつては大きな舞台があり、地元の人々が踊りや芝居をそこで演じていたようだ。 現在は、オリーブ公園として多くの人々が訪れているが、かつてはこの地はお祭りの場所として賑わっていた。 南向きで内海に面し、緩やかな山裾であったこの場所は、いつの時代も人々の関心を惹きつける場所であったのだろう。 As I was walking through Shodoshima Olive Park, I saw a small stone torii gate. Looking at the billboard, there is an explanation that it is "Mizuki no Ara Shrine". At least, its existence can be confirmed in documents in the middle of the Edo period. There used to be a large stage in the precincts, and it seems that the locals used to perform dances and plays there. Today, it is visited by many people as an olive park, but it used to be a bustling place for festivals. Facing south, facing the inland sea, and gently sloping at the foot of a mountain, this place must have always attracted people's attention.

  小豆島オリーブ公園のギリシャ風車の近くに、昭和天皇が植えたというオリーブの木があった。 オリーブの木の寿命はどれくらいなのだろうか。おそらく植えられた時は、小さな木だったのだろう。 今では、下から見上げるほどの大きな木にまで成長した。 園内の一角には、まだ幼いオリーブの木を育てている場所もあった。オリーブの木が枯れた場合は、この若木にその場所を引き継いでいくのだろうか。 この美しいオリーブの森は、これからもずっとこの地にあり続けるのだろう。 There was an olive tree planted by Emperor Showa near the Greek windmill in Shodoshima Olive Park. How long do olive trees live? It was probably a small tree when it was planted. Now, it has grown into a big tree that can be seen from below. In one corner of the garden, there was also a place where young olive trees were growing. If the olive tree dies, will this young tree take over its place? This beautiful olive forest will continue to exist here forever.

  小豆島オリーブ園の中に、光のアートギャラリー　アルテトラという施設があり、その中はイサム・ノグチのギャラリーのようになっていた。 イサム・ノグチは、香川県の花崗岩を作品に使ったことをきっかけに、その地にアトリエを作り制作をしていた。 その関係で、小豆島の花崗岩も作品に使ったことがあり、小豆島ともゆかりがあった。 暑い日差しの中、オリーブ畑を歩いていた後だったので、少し薄暗い雰囲気の中、イサム・ノグチの優しい光の照明によって、しばしの休息を得ることができた。 Inside the Shodoshima Olive Garden, there is a facility called Artetra, an art gallery of light. After Isamu Noguchi used granite from Kagawa Prefecture for his work, he set up an atelier there to create his work. As a result, he has used granite from Shodoshima in his work, and has a connection with Shodoshima. After walking through the olive groves in the hot sun, Isamu Noguchi's gentle lighting allowed me to take a moment's rest in a slightly dim atmosphere.

  小豆島オリーブ公園の西側は、小豆島オリーブ園という別な観光施設の敷地になっている。 その境界は曖昧で、ギリシャ風車の西側にはオリーブ畑が広がっていて、その辺りからはこの小豆島オリーブ園になるようだ。 そのオリーブ畑をしばらく歩いていくと、不思議なオブジェが見えてくる。 アートファンであれば、それがイサム・ノグチの作品であることがわかるだろう。 The west side of Shodoshima Olive Park is the site of another tourist facility called Shodoshima Olive Garden. The boundary between them is ambiguous, and there are olive groves on the west side of the Greek windmill, and from there, it seems that this Shodoshima olive grove. If you walk through the olive grove for a while, you will see a mysterious object. Art fans will recognize it as the work of Isamu Noguchi.
